Breast reduction

Breast reduction, or mammoplasty, is an aesthetic procedure often performed on women with large breasts to reduce their size, improve shape, and achieve better proportionality with the body. This surgery helps lift the breasts and reduce their volume, providing a more balanced appearance. Women seeking breast reduction must be at least 18 years old.

Breast reduction is a life-changing solution for women suffering from discomfort caused by large, sagging breasts, including neck, back, and shoulder pain, as well as marks from bra straps. It is also effective in addressing visible breast asymmetry.

The surgery typically takes about three hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the complexity, patients may need to stay in the hospital for one to two nights. Importantly, breast reduction surgery does not interfere with breastfeeding, does not increase the risk of breast cancer, and allows for routine medical exams like mammography and ultrasound.

Pre-Operative Preparation

  1. Consultation with the Surgeon: Inform the surgeon about any allergies to medications and disclose any current medications you are taking for health reasons that may affect the surgery.

  2. Pre-Operative Examinations: A few days before the surgery, you’ll undergo a series of medical tests to assess your health condition, ensuring the surgery can be performed safely.

  3. Discontinue Certain Medications: At least two weeks before surgery, stop taking medications containing Acetylsalicylic Acid (such as Aspirin, Vivin C, Cardiospirin, etc.), as well as any oral anticoagulants. Consult your prescribing doctor if you need to discontinue any medication.

  4. Quit Smoking: Smoking must be stopped at least two weeks prior to surgery to ensure better healing and minimize complications.

  5. Pre-Surgery Preparation: On the day before the surgery, take a shower, remove any nail polish or gel, and ensure your skin is clean. Do not consume any food or liquids at least eight hours before the operation.

  6. Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable clothing with buttons or zippers to the surgery for ease of dressing post-operation.

Following these guidelines helps prepare your body for surgery and supports the healing process.

After the operation

The recovery period after breast reduction surgery typically lasts 5 to 7 days. Most patients begin to feel better by the fourth or fifth day. Here’s what to expect during your recovery:

  1. Post-Surgery Follow-up: Three days after surgery, you’ll need to visit the DaVINCI Clinic for the removal of the drains and a follow-up check to ensure everything is healing as expected. Other post-operative treatments will also be provided at this time.

  2. Immobilization of the Chest: During recovery, it is crucial to follow the special instructions provided by the DaVINCI Clinic to keep the chest immobile. These instructions will help ensure the best healing and outcome.

  3. Doctor’s Guidance: Your doctor will monitor your recovery and advise when it is safe for you to resume normal activities. The healing process will be closely managed to ensure optimal results.

By following the recovery plan and staying in touch with your doctor, you’ll help ensure a smooth and successful recovery.
